ABOUT THE PROJECT

One of the earliest and most prolific of Esperanto bands is the group KAJTO ("Kite"). You can learn more about them here.

In 1991, Kajto released PROCESIO MULTKOLORA, the first half of which is a song-cycle of sorts, about a traveling puppet show. And this is where DOKTOR ESPERANTO comes in.

Think of DOKTOR ESPERANTO as Esperanto's first cover band, taking existing material and making it their own.

The sound I hear ("I" being Russell Taylor, vocalist and producer) is — well, I suppose I'll stick with Gypsy Kabaret Junk Band. Something rich and textured and worn around the edges. Carnivalesque.

There are no pre-existing arrangements for this project — only the lead sheets from the published sheet music, an example of which can be found here. We'll meet a number of times to work through things before going into the studio to record.

I know that the money is barely a token. I wish there was more to give but, rehearsal space, recording studios, and disc manufacturing adds up quickly, as you may well know. And, really, breaking even on a project like this is near impossible. I'll tell you this, though: As the man signing the checks, I'm doing it for the art or it all.

"Life is short, but the Art, she must live on!"

Russell Taylor
